Accommodations
What can I expect from my Remote Year accommodations?
Accommodations vary from city to city, but Remotes are always provided with a private bedroom in an apartment, house, or hotel. This private bedroom will likely be part of a multi-bedroom apartment where several Remotes live together, each with their own bedroom but often sharing a bathroom(s). Remote Year accommodations are clean and secure, and include linens, towels, and an internet connection. The bed size will vary, but couples will always have a double bed or larger.
Your living preferences should be recorded in the Lifestyle Preferences & Interests survey in your Remote Year Profile. Additionally, if an issue arises with your accommodation, we will reconcile the situation as quickly as possible, and we count on Remotes to communicate this through the Remote Year customer service ticketing system.
When do I receive information about where I'm living?
Your Program Leader will send you an email one week before you arrive to your next city with the details of your new home (address, flatmates, Google Map link and accommodation notes). This email also includes information about your Travel Day (or Arrival Day, if it's month one), workspace and links to the City Guide and Marketplace.
Our City Guides are a treasure trove of information, too! Take a peek and learn more about where you'll live and work each month, city hot spots recommended by Remotes and locals alike and the history that has shaped the city and country you'll be living in for a month.
Will I always have the same accommodation as other Remotes?
No. It’s very difficult to find exact matching rooms in any single city, and it’s not one of the top priorities that we believe makes a great Remote Year experience and lifestyle. We use variations amongst accommodations and individual preferences to optimize living spaces for the full group.
How will I be assigned to my specific accommodation and / or flatmates?
We learn about your preferences and lifestyle in the Lifestyle Preferences & Interests survey in your Remote Year Profile. We encourage you to complete that survey with your accurate preferences, as your Program Leader will use those details to assign accommodations. You’ll be able to update these preferences throughout the year, and we ask that you alert your Program Leader if you do so.
Most of the time, you will live with one to three other Remote Year flatmates in your accommodations. Sometimes you will live alone, but it is more often that you will have at least one, or two, other people living with you. Additionally, in some cities we have the opportunity to put larger groups of Remotes together (five or six total), and your Program Leader will communicate when this is an option.
In many cases, there will be disparities in accommodation quality in any given city. We’ll keep note of where you have stayed, and do our best to make sure this is averaged out throughout your experience. If you ever feel as though we’re not excelling at that, please voice your concerns to Program Leader.

Will I have WiFi in my accommodations?
Yes, you’ll have an internet connection, but the speed will vary. You will always have enough bandwidth to send emails and browse the internet. This may come in the form of WiFi or a hotspot with data.
What is the distance between my accommodation and the workspace?
There will be a maximum 30-minute commute between your accommodations and the workspace. Generally, this is calculated via walking, but in some cases may include public transport or private transfer service (like our 15-minute shuttle bus in Marrakech). Just as every city looks different, so does every Remote Year setup in these cities. Remote Year local teams set up accommodations and workspaces in neighborhoods well suited for Remotes’ lifestyles.
What are some things I can expect to happen from time to time in my accommodation?
Some of the things that pop up in your apartment or house in your home country have the possibility of occurring in your Remote Year accommodations, too. For example, you may find a bug or two in your room, there could be a stain on a wall or in the carpet or your room, building may have previously allowed, or currently allows smoking.
If an issue arises that needs immediate attention, like the hot water stops working, the power goes out, or the toilet, sink, shower, etc. needs servicing, Remote Year will provide a resolution as quickly as possible.
